Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy is more than just a yoga class or counseling session—it’s a personalized, holistic approach to healing that integrates yoga postures (asanas), breathwork (pranayama), meditation, guided imagery, and relaxation into a therapeutic plan tailored to each individual’s needs.

Unlike general yoga, which promotes overall wellness, yoga therapy specifically targets physical and mental health conditions. Each session aligns with the client’s unique treatment goals and is meant to compliment their current and ongoing therapy sessions with their counselor.

Why Yoga Therapy?

Life is full of transitions — and with change comes the need for support. Yoga therapy integrates breathing techniques, mindful movement, meditation, and reflective practices to promote emotional regulation, reduce anxiety, manage depression, and enhance overall well-being.

Yoga Therapy is more than just movement; it’s a therapeutic journey toward becoming your most authentic self. Rooted in ancient wisdom and supported by modern mental health practices, yoga therapy helps you connect mind, body, and breath in ways that foster growth, healing, and self-awareness.

Our skilled therapists offer individualized yoga therapy sessions designed to complement your ongoing counseling work. Whether you’re new to yoga or have an established practice, our approach meets you where you are and supports where you want to go.

What to expect from Yoga Therapy

Each session of Yoga Therapy is personalized to the client, and may involve a variety of different techniques, including:

  • Breathwork to calm the nervous system
  • Gentle movement and poses tailored to your body
  • Guided meditation and mindfulness
  • Journaling and reflective practices

There may also be suggested exercises given for at-home practice, which may range from 10 to 30 minutes per day. Establishing a consistent, daily practice can help reinforce the client’s progress, allowing them to fully engage in and experience the benefits of yoga.

Yoga therapy sessions may take a scaffolded approach, where the sessions build on one another, or they may remain consistent to offer structure and routine, depending on your needs.

Experience the Healing Power of Yoga Therapy

At Bowman Family Services, wellness is a whole-body practice.

Yoga itself is more than an exercise. It’s a way of living and moving in the world as our most true, authentic selves in any given moment. Within yoga, there is an understanding that people and environments change – nothing remains the same. As we grow and change, so do our needs and our mental health.

Yogic techniques like breathwork, meditation, movement, and reflection provide their own therapeutic benefits. Combining ancient wisdom with modern research, Yoga Therapy is increasingly integrated into healthcare settings, and can help manage or improve a variety of physical and mental health conditions.
